Born blind on February 2nd 1892, but as a musical genius,
Ganayogi Panchakshara Gawai had a vision that the power of classical music can change the lives of
poor and underprivileged children. With an inborn latent talent, he fought all
adversities and overcame hardships by sheer determination, single-minded
devotion and dedication to the cause of music, literature, theatre, other forms
of art. All along his life, he worked to impart the knowledge of music to blind,
orphans and handicapped and thereby adding a new meaning to their life. He
believed that rearing blind and orphans is divine, imparting knowledge is
meditation and serving the humanity is the life-goal. He practiced what he
preached. He broke the traditional barriers that prevailed in the older days and
brought classical music within the reach of middle class and under privileged.
Sangeetyogashram has been started as a humble effort to realize the vision and
dreams of Ganayogi. Ever since its inception in 2004, Sangeetyogashram trust
founders are working relentlessly to promote classical music among the poor and
visually challenged. With this sprit of service to the humanity, the goal of
Sangeetyogashram is to establish a Sangeet Ashram and thus to realize the dreams
of Ganayogi.
